The Factory of Furknots:___:Back To Crisis: The Origin

2023
Wood installation, sculptural objects in space, sheet, sawdust
Video duration: 4'45''

The Factory of Furknots is an abandoned factory of design that is depicted through the digital reality prism of a video game, Back To Crisis: The Origin. Each player can wander around the space and interact with the pieces of furniture that are going to tell their own stories. These are the Furknots, stretched, knotted and distorted furniture that look like they are about to break, but they don’t. There, unfolds a memory of a place and a name. My name is Katerina Korre or just Korre, a quite recognizable surname in Greece, and through this game I try to re-appropriate my father's name from which I distanced myself. I use Gorgoknot to wander into an environment that, with the onset of the financial crisis in Greece in 2008, began to sink into the mud until it went bankrupt a few years later. The consequences were disastrous for the "showcase" person with the name “Korres”. The banks chased him, he was jailed for a while and finally died on 11/10/2017 by a heart attack.

Korre creates a game through which she can visit her father's furniture factory that she cannot go to now. The game "materializes" her memory thanks to an environment that reminds her of something, with its smells and appearance.

The wood is a warm material, it has memories, it has nerves, but it does not stretch like a sheet, and when it does then you must listen to its story.
